Goldgazer - Wonder Valley

Hearing this again this afternoon was a perfect example of how music can amplify your environment, and vice versa. A bit overcast, a walk around my surrounding suburbs saw dark blue clouds, light showers and an absolutely huge rainbow that seemed to stretch over the entire city. I feel like the conditions couldn’t have been better, where every element of this beautiful collection of ambient and post rock compositions felt in its right place. On this you’ll find soft electric guitar lines looped to oblivion, the occasional wall of noise to throw you off your track, and gorgeous string embellishments bringing each key melody to the forefront. The whole album conjures up something that’s indicative of its title - something self-reflective and meditative that you can truly get lost in.

While a pretty cerebral experience on its own, I can’t recommend enough listening to this while taking any sort of a walk - whether it’s a proper hike or a venture to the corner shop. Although the record’s not without its faults, the experience today was a 10.

KEY TRACK: Desert Heights - the album’s masterpiece, this final piece of the record brings its overall emotion and atmosphere to new heights, evoking imagery that feels like you’re watching the best sunset of all time.
