Caught this little gem while working today and took it on a walk in the afternoon - one of those ambient albums that works equally as well in the evening as during the day. Also one of those ambient albums which makes you find yourself either peering into your soul or gazing at the world around you. While not without its imperfections, chamomile has a delightful amount of character to it, maintaining a souring quality while blending just enough texture in there to make it feel dense and expansive. I think it’s when its angelic vocals are mixed in with the soundscapes when I enjoy this album the most, almost giving you something to latch onto in the sparseness, providing familiarity in the unknown. That’s my favourite kind of ambient music.
An unambitious but all-the-same gorgeous little ambient album which, at its best moments, brings immense peace and solidarity.
KEY TRACK: what’s on the inside - the looping breathy vocals on this track are just gorgeous, building and building as the piece draws to a close offering some finality to its repetition.
