.dot - RAW vol.2

I’ve covered his heavily-NMTMO influenced alt .KLYNE before, but I think it’s under the main .dot name that the Miami beatmaker really shines. I know RAW vol.2 might not be the best example of his greatest work, but it’s no less prime an example of his beautiful projects - bite-sized, sunny soulful beats in a bite-sized but ever-replayable package. It’s on a brief but punchy tape like this where .dot’s sample chops glisten in all their kaleidoscopic glory; always uplifting and shimmering, doused in saturation and OTT. The accompanying percussion always seems to blend through the samples with ease, quick kicks punching with zaps of snares, hats off-kilter to hold their own loose quality and immersively panning left to right on a track like ‘diamond.’ I won’t try to overkill what is a brief and instantly-rewarding experience with this tape, but RAW vol.2 is all killer no filler, accompanying me on many a quick lunch walk or duck to the shops lately, always brightening my day no matter what’s going on.

KEY BEAT: .corazon - in under 40 seconds it feels like the clouds have lifted and a warm sun’s started to shine through, with an enchanting deep vocal loop and soft percussion inviting you in.
