Aalon​$​e /​/​/ ΔKTR - Chapters

I went all the way out to the dentist this morning, realising my appointment was actually next week when I got there. With some time to kill I took the bus to the beach and had one of the best experiences with a tape in a while. Along the boardwalk with the headphones on, weather warm but not sizzling, skies a crystal clear blue. Looking out over the sand was still water rippling and glistening in the light; way out in the horizon you could see the airport and the skyscrapers in the CBD. This early collaboration from the two modern legends was a soundtrack fit for sun and light breeze that ran through the air; deep funk and dazzling chords blasting through the headphones. Aalon​$​e kicks things off with a tighter groove, bright and triumphant and headbobbing built for moments like this. ΔKTR takes the more meditative route, minimal kicks driving each track underneath gorgeous down-pitched soul chops, like a blissful and soothing lucid dream that wakes you up feeling better than when you went to sleep. This is a whole bunch of bullshit to say that while I’ve always loved this split tape alone, my memory with it will only be amplified ten fold from the beautiful trip I had with this morning. KEY BEAT: Moonstruct - I could have this one looping for hours and not getting bored with its entrancing two-chord loop, tight bassline and little piano run every now and then. A perfect example of simplicity being key, letting the sample speak with drums quietly snapping underneath.
