I got into Indy’s music way too late, around Nov-Dec of last year when I was diving deep into the PSG catalogue. I started right from the beginning with numerous flip$ and randomjawn$, hearing the growth with every project in Indy’s sound, rhythm and source material. I mean this in the best way but I feel like Indy never fully levelled-up, but stayed on a consistent path to achieve his own self-expression, on the road to an equally tighter but more expansive sound. I could’ve picked any number of his tapes from the past couple years, but his most recent feels like a clear statement of who he is as an artist and the kind of energy he’s trying to omit. I’m not gassing when I say these beats feel spiritual, like I’m hearing a modern-day Pharoah Sanders tap the SP. There’s a real sense of air to each instrumental, like you’re gliding from one gaseous planet to the next with each having its own unique characteristics and certain energy. This otherwordliness comes in part due to the sources, which seem to vary from really ethereal ambient textures to warmly warped guitars and deep vocal embelishes. The drums themselves are, to my ears, kind of unmatched in terms of timbre, with brittle but clear hihats and snares each popping through the mix, and every bass kick knocking. These combine to transport you to another place entirely across a tape like this, and you can never quite put it into words as you try to describe the indescribable.

KEY BEAT: cubism - this one launches you right in to its stratosphere with crunchy echoed snares caked in white noise, until it quickly reaches a solid groove where beautiful keys are front and centre.
