Writing this one over a Friday Arvo Happy Hour beer at my local while the sunset turns the sky pink - honestly a really fitting backdrop for such a beautiful album. While he’s on a crazy 2024 run, I decided to go back to one of my favourite tapes and easily one of scape’s finest. The brilliant producer shows off a collection of sweet, sugary tracks that blend seamlessly into each other with almost every sample here holding it’s own instantly-stuck-in-your-head quality with some of the finest chops I think he’s done. Every airy vocal, guitar lick or bassline feels equally weightless and grounded, never tuned too high to feel like chipmunk soul but finding a sweet spot somewhere inbetween. Each song locks in a pretty solid groove and always a crazy bounce between the punchy kicks, bright snares that feel like they pop every time they hit, and off kilter super loose hats. I’m reminded of this gorgeous blend every time I listen to this, and reminded of the futuristic and historic wave that PSG’s making at the moment - but a tape like this as well as so many others in scape’s discog, should stand the test of time in a rich and expansive soulhop scene.

KEY BEAT: Bay Leaf - this song’s heavenly loop and perfect drum placement makes the whole thing sound like clouds clearing and the sun shining through. It seems to get stuck in my head all the time and it feels like a standout on an album full of standouts.
