I was lucky enough to be present at the live and uncut debut of what would become this mixtape, at a beautiful home in glebe on a toasty saturday night. After some technical difficulties, the spidersuit and the luigi hat was on, and we knew we were about to witness something special - when play was pressed, we were embarking on a work wholly unique to the mind and spirit of Heyes.

Sparked from a lightning in a bottle moment one night, his concept was simple - every member of the gathering would request a song for Heyes to add that quickmix touch to. Easier said than done, but the results were nothing short of creative, multifaceted and heartfelt.

Heyes poured his soul into every mix here no matter what sound or style. Whether the beautiful 2000s pop magic of Kylie Minogue and Natasha Bedingfield, or the grunge and brutality of Nirvana and Northlane. Heyes handles these songs with care and consideration, but never swims too close to the surface - there’s something to be admired about how unrecognisable the sample material can be.

Take my selection for example, Stephanie McIntosh’s Mistake - with repeated listens you can hear her vocals but they’re chopped in a way where Heyes is able to put his own unique touch to it. This is music that doesn’t take itself seriously in the best way possible: a truly endearing experience that keeps you on your toes throughout the whole runtime.

Years of love for plunderphonics and the joys of Neil Cicierega have led to me enjoying the hell out of this. Heyes could retire here and will have dropped his best record, but I can only hope he dons the spidersuit once again.

KEY TRACK: Everybody Loves Raymond - Theme Song (feat YL) - I honestly can’t believe Heyes got YL on the track but the outcome is so good, with Y floating on this insane beat mixed in with Everybody Loves Raymond’s distorted jazzy pianos and Ray Romano’s amazingly nasal voice
