A morning full of ecstasy without a single drug in my system. Phone down, Logical Progression in my headphones right up, on the morning commute between people packed like sardines on the city-going light rail. Weeks of Sydney rain with a brief dry spell like we hadn’t seen sun in years, but the air was crisp. Blue skies and light breeze were the perfect backdrop to this beautifully airy but blood-pumping mix by the legendary UK DJ and producer. Atmospheric drum and bass in all its bliss as I stare out the window with my fingers tapping the side of my leg frenetically. Amen breaks running wild, gentle pads gracing the air as the raw sub hits and birds chirp in the background. Off the tram now and walking parallel to the Barangaroo waters watching the shimmering harbours and running passers-by before their nine to five, taking in that brief moment of reprieve before their second day begins. I’m letting every last sweeping melody hit, every tambourine rattle and vocal snippet speak to me, until I turn my headphones off and head into the office. It’s simple moments like this that make music so powerful, so affective and soul-searing that you can’t wait to put the cans back on when the day is done. Sometimes it’s just that thing to get you through the day, and what’s more meaningful than that?
