The Field – Looping State of Mind

This one I just recently discovered very late last year, just before I jumped on the cruise with my family, and with the amount of playtime I gave this album on the ship it’ll always remind me of that. My favourite Field album (or at least from what I’ve heard from them), brilliantly combines ambience and techno to create a hypnotic and meditating, yet hard-hitting album. The focus on looped grooves which slowly build and become more layered creates a cerebral response rather than a physical one, and at its best it produces some amazing climaxes.

KEY TRACK: - Arpeggiated Love – this track stuck with me from the first time I heard it, with its very basic loop eventually turning into something quite gargantuan and all-encompassing. The track becomes particularly grand in its second half where it becomes really grand, with its backed vocal loops, arpeggiated synths and harsh lead cutting through all the layers.
